Mods
RED loads a mod's packfiles only when it starts. Mod (RF+) lists the mods in your game's mods folder, and choosing one starts the editor again with that mod.
Where to find it
Switch to a mod
- Open Mod (RF+). It lists (No mod) and every folder in the
modsfolder of your Red Faction folder. The mod the editor is running has the check mark, or (No mod) when it runs without one. - Choose a mod, or (No mod) to run without one.
- RED+ asks Restart Editor? Click Yes.
- The editor closes the usual way. If the level has unsaved changes, RED asks whether to save them. Cancel there keeps the editor open, with the mod it had.
- The editor starts again with the mod you chose, and opens the same level again.
Choosing the mod that is already running does nothing. The list is read again each time you open it, so a mod folder added while the editor runs shows up.
What RED+ remembers
- Once the editor has closed for the restart, RED+ saves your choice as
mod=in the[editor]section ofredplus.ini. (No mod) saves an emptymod=. - Every start of
RedPlus.exethen runs the editor with that mod, until you choose another. - If that mod's folder is gone, the editor starts without a mod.
logs\RedPlus.login the RED+ folder then has a line containingis gone; starting without a mod. -modfollowed by a mod name on the command line ofRedPlus.exeruns that mod for this start instead. See Command-line switches.- The restarted editor keeps the command-line switches the editor was started with, and the same Red Faction folder.
While a mod is loaded, the editor's title bar ends with - Mod: and the mod's name.
Mod folders with a space in the name
A mod folder with a space in its name is listed greyed out, followed by "(mods with a space in the name are not supported)". RED cannot load such a mod.
If mod= in redplus.ini names such a folder, the editor starts without a mod, and logs\RedPlus.log has a line containing has a space in its name.
Levels saved with another mod
RED keeps the name of the mod in the level file. When you open a level saved with a different mod, or with none, RED warns you:
- With a mod loaded, it says that the level will be saved with the loaded mod.
- With no mod loaded, it says that the level's mod is not loaded.
These are RED's own messages. OK carries on and opens the level. To work on it with its own mod, choose that mod in Mod (RF+).
Good to know
- The level opens again after the restart only if it has been saved to a file. A level that was never saved does not open again, even if you save it when the editor closes.
- If the menu shows "No mods in" and a folder name, the
modsfolder is missing or has no folders in it. - The menu lists up to 223 mods. If there are more, the last item reads "(more mods than this menu can list)".
- If
RedPlus.exeis missing from the RED+ folder or cannot be started, a message titled Mod (RF+) says so after the editor has closed. Start RED+ yourself: it opens with the mod you chose.
