Editor

Preferences

RED+ adds two categories to RED's Preferences dialog: RED+, with the settings on this page, and Keybindings. RED's own General, Texture and Visual pages are as RED has them.

Where to find it

Tools, Preferences...

RED+ and Keybindings are the last two entries in the category list. Click RED+ to see its page, headed RED+ Preferences.

A setting marked (takes effect on restart) on the page applies from the next time RED+ starts.

Modern window styling

Tick it to draw the editor's buttons, lists and other controls in the current Windows style. Untick it for RED's classic look.

RED+ applies it when it starts the editor, by writing or removing RED_4gb.exe.manifest next to RED_4gb.exe in your game folder. It does this only for a RED_4gb.exe that RED+ made; any other copy is used as it is. Until you change the setting, the box shows unticked, and RED+ uses the same manifest as RED.exe, if there is one.

Direct3D 11 renderer

Leave it ticked. Antialiasing, texture filtering and gas regions in Free Look need it. See Viewports and rendering.

Save levels as RFL version

The version RED+ writes into the levels you save.

  • 305 - Alpine 1.4 is the default. A level that uses .atx, .png or .jpg textures needs 305. RED+ does not check this.
  • 304 - Alpine 1.3 is for levels that must also load in Alpine Faction 1.3.

The choice applies from your next save. See Saving levels and Opening levels from other editors.

Selected brush color

The colour RED+ draws the selection in. Click Change Color to pick another. The viewports use the new colour at once.

It colours selected brushes, the icons of selected objects, the bounding shape of a selected mesh object, and selected meshes, bags, notes, coronas, Suns and weather regions.

Antialiasing (MSAA)

Smooths edges in the viewports: Off, 2x, 4x or 8x.

Texture filtering

The level of anisotropic filtering for textures in the viewports: Off, 2x, 4x, 8x or 16x.

Rebuild with hole lines on by default

Ticked, RED+ turns on Level, Rebuild with hole lines each time it starts, so every rebuild draws the open edges RED finds. Ticking or unticking the box also sets that menu item straight away. See Classify holes.

Classic file browse boxes

RED's browse boxes (Open, Save As and the rest) are the current Windows file dialog, with its navigation pane, address bar and search. Tick this for the older box RED shipped with. See Saving levels.

Render Everything if a level has no portals

Ticked, a level with geometry but too few portal faces opens in Render Everything, because Render Using Portals draws almost nothing in such a level. Untick it to keep the view mode as RED has it. See Viewports and rendering.

Texture Browser additions

Ticked, the Texture Browser has the RED+ box, a tooltip on the tile under the mouse, small tags on the tiles, and a checkerboard behind see-through textures. Untick it to leave all of these out. See The Texture Browser.

Show gas regions in Free Look, as in the game

Ticked, the Free Look view draws the level's gas regions the way the game draws them. See Viewports and rendering.

When settings are saved

Each RED+ setting is saved to redplus.ini the moment you change it. You do not need to apply it, and cancelling the Preferences dialog does not undo it.

The settings are in the [editor] section: visual_styles, d3d11, rfl_version, selected_color, msaa, anisotropy, hole_lines_default, classic_file_dialogs, force_render_everything, texbrowser_extras and gas_preview. See redplus.ini.

Keybindings

The Keybindings category holds the list from Keyboard shortcuts, with Assign..., Clear and Reset All. Each change is saved as you make it.
