Reporting a problem
When something goes wrong, the logs in the RED+ folder usually show what happened. Send them with a short description to the RED+ author, through the contact given where you downloaded RED+.
What to send
- What you did, and what you expected instead.
logs\RedPlusEditor.logfrom the RED+ folder. If you have started the editor again since, also sendlogs\RedPlusEditor.prev.log: each start moves the previous log there.- If the editor crashed,
logs\RedPlusEditor-crash.zip. - The level, if you can share it.
If RED+ does not start at all, send logs\RedPlus.log.
The logs
All logs are in the logs folder inside the RED+ folder.
| File | What it holds |
|---|---|
RedPlus.log | the start: which Red Faction folder RED+ used and which editor file it started. Replaced at every start. |
RedPlusEditor.log | the current editor session |
RedPlusEditor.prev.log | the session before |
archive\ | the 12 sessions before that, named by date and time |
RedPlusEditor-crash.zip | the report of the last crash |
The editor log records the title and text of every message box RED itself shows, in a line containing [RF+ Dialog], so such a message you did not copy down is still there.
If the editor crashes
A window titled Crash report says that RED+ has stopped working. By then RED+ has saved the report as logs\RedPlusEditor-crash.zip in the RED+ folder. It holds a memory dump of the editor, details of the error and the editor log.
- View the report opens the report file. If Windows cannot open it, Explorer opens the logs folder with the file selected.
- Add additional information opens a box where you describe what you were doing. The text goes into the report when you click Send report.
- Send report adds that text to the report and shows where the file is. It does not send anything: RED+ does not upload the report. Send the file yourself.
- Close closes the window. The report stays in the logs folder.
Each crash replaces the previous report. Copy a report somewhere else if you want to keep it.
Lighting problems
Baked lighting that looks different from stock RED is expected in places. Report it when it looks wrong, not just different. Send the level, and say which Quality: and Lightmap detail: it uses in Level Properties.
What RED+ sends
Nothing on its own. RED+ does not upload crash reports or logs, and does not check for updates.
